Literacy New Westminster is a community-based partnership that brings together local organizations, schools, libraries, and residents to strengthen literacy in the city. It is supported by Purpose Society and works collaboratively to build a more connected and learning-focused community.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Literacy is understood in a broad way. It includes not only reading and writing, but also skills such as communication, digital knowledge, and the ability to understand information and participate fully in everyday life.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Literacy New West works by identifying community needs and supporting both new and existing literacy initiatives. This includes sharing resources, raising awareness, and encouraging organizations to include literacy in their programs so that learning becomes part of everyday community life.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A key part of the work is creating accessible and welcoming activities for people of all ages. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Literacy New Westminster also focuses on building connections. By working across sectors and with community members, it helps reduce barriers to learning and creates more opportunities for people to develop skills in ways that feel relevant and inclusive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At its core, Literacy New Westminster is about making learning visible, accessible, and part of everyday life, so that everyone in the community has the opportunity to grow, participate, and feel included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
