From Local to Global: New Westminster Joins Strong Cities Network<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The City of New Westminster is committed to taking strong and ongoing action to address discrimination, division, hate, and racism. The City will continue working with community partners and building on the programs already in place to promote inclusion, connection, and safety. The goal is to make sure everyone in the community feels welcome, respected, and supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By joining the Strong Cities Network<\/strong>, New Westminster is strengthening its ability to work with other cities across Canada and around the world. This membership allows the City to share ideas, learn from others, and improve how it responds to hate incidents and growing divisions in communities. The City recognizes that these issues are not just local\u2014they affect many places\u2014and that real, lasting change requires cooperation between cities and all levels of government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BC\u2013Yukon Newcomer Needs Survey<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you a newcomer living in British Columbia or Yukon? We want to hear from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs), Zonal Immigration Partnerships (ZIPs), and R\u00e9seaux en immigration francophone (RIFs) are inviting newcomers to share their experiences and ideas for building more welcoming communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your responses are anonymous and will help improve programs, services, and supports for newcomers across BC and Yukon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. Participants can enter for a chance to win a $50 gift card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udde8\ud83c\udde6\u2764\ufe0f \u201cLest We Forget\u201d \u2014 The Meaning Behind the Poppy<\/strong> \ud83c\udf3a<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Every year, from the last Friday in October until November 11 (Remembrance Day)<\/strong>, Canadians wear a red Poppy flower<\/strong> \ud83c\udf3a to honour Veterans<\/strong> \u2014 the brave men and women who served in the military and helped protect peace and freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The phrase \u201cLest We Forget\u201d<\/strong> means \u201cLet\u2019s make sure we never forget.\u201d<\/em> It reminds us to remember the sacrifices<\/strong> of those who fought and those who lost their lives in wars and peacekeeping missions. It\u2019s a way of saying that we are grateful and that their courage will always be remembered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re new to Canada, this is a special tradition you\u2019ll see everywhere during this time of year. People wear the Poppy on their jackets, shirts, or bags as a sign of respect and unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udf3a The Poppy is always free<\/strong>, and you can find them in local stores, community centres, or libraries. The Royal Canadian Legion<\/strong> accepts voluntary donations<\/strong> to the Poppy Fund<\/strong>, which helps Veterans and their families with housing, health, and community support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udf3a The Poppy is kept by the person wearing it during the campaign<\/strong> and on November 11<\/strong>, the City of New Westminster<\/strong> will host its annual Remembrance Day ceremony<\/strong> to honour the service and sacrifices of Canadian Veterans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
